Picking Report

Please read our News tab for an overall outlook for 2016 and the reasons behind the projections.  It will explain all.

May 7th, 2016

Amazing that it has been a whole month since our last post!  So much has changed on the farm.  Everything is green, green, green.  The BLACKBERRIES are blooming and looking amazing. Our raspberries have bloomed and are forming berries that will hopefully be ready to pick by the first few weeks of June.  And last but now least, our strawberries are looking GREAT!  We have actual strawberries that are ripe (they are a very popular breakfast for the whole family), and we are hoping they will sweeten up the warmer it gets.

We still do not think we will open for U-pick strawberry season this season, but look for us at Overland Park Market starting in June.  Raspberries will also be at Market.

With the beautiful weather, the green life of spring, blooms, berries, and planting, life is good on the farm!

We went to opening day at Overland Park Farmer's Market today.  It was cold!!!!!  We actually won't be back at the market until the first Saturday of June.  For various reasons, it was a special day and we were there supporting the market getting some of our folks stocked up on jam until June.

We sealed up the high tunnel last night  which had raspberries with blooms about to burst, recovered the blooming strawberries and hoped to survive the 25 degrees intact.  The blackberries aren't blooming and will weather it all just fine.

April 7th, 2016

We are out of technology hibernation at last and are updating the website!

It was a mild winter and looking like an early spring until the last few weeks.  We have been in FARM RECOVERY mode the last 2 months along with many helping hands.  We have had much damage the last two years, particularly last year at the farm with 50 inches of rain in 3 months.  Over 100 people came out to help us prune the farm and get the clean up under way.  We still don't have a few pieces like the shelter house cleaned up after the flood, but we are getting there.  We HOPE FOR A GREAT BLACKBERRY SEASON as the plants look really good.  We still need to survive the overspray/drift from all the neighbors so you can pray for that if you love blackberries!

Hours

Due to Renee's (mom) health--see the news tab for explanation--we do not think we will open publicly for strawberry picking this spring.  We WILL HAVE STRAWBERRY AND STRAWBERRY RHUBARB JAM at the house if you stop by.

We will have sour cherries and asparagus when they are ready - May/June.  e-mail if you are looking for those items.

Spring raspberries will only be at market.  We are fulfilling a contract from last fall that we were unable to meet.  Fall raspberries will be September and October, sometimes into November.  Picking will be by appointment for fall raspberries.

We expect blackberry season to be JULY AND AUGUST.  We will have regular, set hours 5 days a week during blackberry season--5 mornings and 2 evenings.  We are closed Wednesdays and Sundays (think church days).
